“Mr. Exclusive” – Bentley’s Bistro at The Pacific Club, Newport Beach

Kobe Beef Burger, at Bentley’s Bistro at The Pacific Club

Well… Here I am, and here we go: My first real blog post. Let’s get this thing rolling…

Today started out like any other day. The sunlight, gently lying its warm ray upon my face, only to arise and yet again realize my unsatisfiable desire for the next burger adventure! Luckily, it would be this same day. One of my closest and best of friends, Brendan Paulin, tipped me to a burger that would absolutely melt in my mouth. A place, so low-key, that you need a yearly membership to get in: Bentley’s Bistro at The Pacific Club in Newport Beach, California.

Menu Name: Kobe Beef Burger

  • Kobe Beef (Medium-Rare)
  • Sourdough Bun
  • Swiss Cheese
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Grilled Onions

My first bite was the best bite. Juices over-flowed onto the french fries as I preceded to take my second, and third at bats. The toasted, sourdough bun gave it a high-rest (high-class restaurant) type feel as I closed my mouth, down into the burger. The bun did a decent job at retaining the protein juices uncontrollably overflowing from the kobe beef; Which ultimately added some extra flavor. The meat was a thick cut, yet it was properly balanced by the array of fresh tomatoes and lettuce. Sadly, the grilled onions were lacking in number and in flavor, but there to pick up the slack, was the melted swiss cheese.

However, about halfway through, I was done. Not because I was full. Because I got bored. Even with the premium kobe beef, the freshly cut tomatoes and lettuce, melted swiss cheese, and grilled onions, this burger lacked longevity; it lacked a punch. And although the garlic fries and ranch were able to kick up the flavor a bit, it wasn’t enough.

Thus, it found its mark at #12 Bentley’s Bistro’s Kobe Beef Burger, on THE Burger List. Sitting plumply between #11 Tommy J’s/ Froggies and #13 Claim Jumper.

TOTAL: 32/40 -5% = 75% C

(The “32” represents the number of points the burger was awarded; the “40” represents the number of points available; the “F” represents that it “FAILED” the knife test by serving the burger with a butter knife instead of a steak knife)

*Note: Actual ranking is subject to change when new burgers make the list. Also, the percentage score will not reflect the burgers’ ranking on the list, for each burger is unique and must be graded on it’s own qualities. For up-to-date rankings, check THE OC Burger List in the menu! Thanks.
